#tbt She#039;s all grown up now but I just love this picture of her! I met her when she was 16 and I#039;m just so proud of her! She#039;s been accepted to Barnard College, her 1st choice, and Spelman College, her 2nd choice. If she chooses the latter, I will be able to proudly call her my Spelman sister! I have delayed reactions. It just hit me. I#039;m so thrilled for you and your parents Miss A! Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Esh @appleofhisai , just two days shy of what would have been her 104th birthday, I imagine our mother General Tubman standing amongst those of us who hold you so deeply and dearly in our hearts, crying those same tears of joy and singing those same songs of jubilee she sang as she saw the vision of our people being freed two years prior to Emancipation. You, daughter, have given her another reason to smile and praise God like only she could. This mighty game of ancestral tag-team sistah! From the shoulders of Ann Atwater and Fannie Lou Hamer, you have now been hoisted onto the back of Harriet on this here #internationalwomensday to continue to lead and embody the story of resistance! I pray you can feel the power of your presence! You hear me?!? My heart is FULL as I feel how overwhelmed yours is at THIS moment, all the way across the country. I appreciate that phone call. Someone on set just mentioned he saw me on ROOTS last night. I guess @history is re-airing the series. Then it occurred to me this is the 40th Anniversary of the original.
